The Call of Icarus

A cold front passed late this morning
With an accompanying shear line of turbulence
And thermal activity.

I launched into this fluid of nothingness

And felt capricious support as nature's affections
Were alternately extended and withdrawn.

She allows me to live and move upon her breath.
In whispers she speaks and I dance upon her lips.
I am at once in union with my companion.

Together we soar the heavens,
Mingling spirits in the clouds,

For but a second I look back to the Earth
And I am left alone

For this sin of inattention I descend in solitude,
Alone again to the Earth.

What terrible isolation to be human.

God, send your winds
To give us life together.
